Claudia Margarita Avila-Urizar, MD

Dr. Avila-Urizar was born in Guatemala and graduated from Francisco Marroquin University Medical School in 1997. The following year, she came to the United States. In Boston, Massachusetts, she taught Spanish medical terminology to third and fourth-year medical students at Harvard Medical School (HMS). She also worked as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, teaching first-year medical and dental school students in a course called Patient Doctor, which focused on how to perform a medical interview.

During her time in Boston, Dr. Avila-Urizar worked as a research assistant with Dr. Leonel Rodriguez in Pediatric Gastroenterology and later as a research assistant for Dr. Zeina El Chemali MD, MPh from the Behavioral Neurology Unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Currently, she is the coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School, of medical translation and interpretation. She attends rounds at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine from the Medical School and continues to teach HMS Medical Students in the Medical Language Program
